The mailing promotions offered by the US Postal Service have grown bigger and better every year for the last few years, and in 2024 they are adding some new wrinkles that could change your postal promotions strategy for years to come. Production Solutions clients have had an exemplary year taking advantage of the 2023 promotions, and we expect an even bigger year in 2024.
So far this year, the biggest and most cost-effective promos for PS clients were the Tactile, Sensory, and Interactive promotion (by mailing with a gloss stock component), the Emerging Tech promotion (by mailing with a QR code leading to a donation page), and everyone’s favorite, the Informed Delivery promotion. Across those three we were able to help save our clients over $1.2MM in 2022, and this year projects to be even bigger – and we will be looking to raise the bar again in 2024!
The USPS Postal Promotions are largely unchanged in 2024, but there are some key highlights that everyone needs to be aware of to keep those postage savings rolling in. Some good, some GREAT, and some that might mean the USPS promotions party might face some challenges in the coming years.
The first major change is around the timing of the Emerging Tech promotion. In 2023, this promotion runs from May through the end of November. In 2024, we will still have six months to use it BUT those six months will be left up to the mailer. The promotion will start on the first mail date that claims the promotion for a particular mail owner and will run for the next six months (or the end of the year). This timing strategy also may be expanded to other promotions in the coming years.
While technically not a promotion, the new Mailing Growth Incentive is another way to save on postage in 2024. This Incentive offers a 30% postage credit for eligible mailings! To qualify, the mail owner needs to mail more than they mailed in 2023 during the “Baseline Period” AND ALSO needs to mail over 1MM pieces in 2024. Anything over those thresholds will receive a 30% postage credit for future mailings. Enrollment is expected to start mid-November 2023, and any earned credits will be issued in July ‘24, October ‘24, and February ‘25.
All good things must come to an end someday, right? Unfortunately, this might be the case for two of the more successful promotions of the past few years. The word is out that the USPS is considering dropping GLOSS STOCK from the eligible treatments list for the 2025 Tactile, Sensory, and Interactive promotion. In addition, they might also cut out the Mobile Shopping eligibility from the 2025 Emerging Tech promotions. Fingers crossed the USPS either keeps those or replaces them with something as useful!
