The Postal Service filed new rates with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) for Market Dominant Rate Changes, and these rate changes will officially go into effect on Sunday, August 29, 2021.
While the average increase is 6.9% across all of the changes proposed, the actual rates at the mail class and presort levels vary. It is important to look at the specifics of your campaigns to determine how the rates will impact your program overall.
Along with the USPS Rate Changes occurring on August 29th, there will also now be two different maximum postcard dimensions of First Class Presorted Postcards. The new maximum size limit for First Class Presorted Postcards will be 9 inches length and 6 inches height, in lieu of the current limits of 6 inches length and 4 ¼ inches height. Keep in mind that unless you want to mail as a First Class postcard, it is more cost effective to mail postcards at Nonprofit Marketing Mail Letter Rates.
Why the change? This has been under consideration the last few years and the USPS hopes the increased size will create additional opportunities for mailers to include new technologies (e.g., QR codes, textures) as well as additional space for creative and copy to defray some of the cost of mailing First Class Presorted Postcards.
